So it turns out that the way this lengthening-daylight business works, for the first few weeks after Solstice, is that sunrise keeps getting later, but sunset gets later faster. It's not til halfway through January that sunrise starts creeping earlier. Around here, it's not going to be light appreciably before eight in the morning until about February.
Which is to say: it was really dark when I drove to work today (but I had heat!) and the students don't start until Wednesday so campus is still deserted. Some of the lights in the connecter were out - presumably because the connecter's closed because the library next door is running on shortened hours until the students come back - and there was this very strong sense of "You're not actually supposed to be here today."
If only that were true.
