holy crap.
Jan. 17th, 2006 01:26 pmSo, my Washington Capitals were apparently eating their Wheaties out in Phoenix yesterday, because they trounced the Coyotes - the Coyotes who are coached by The Great One himself, Wayne Gretzky - 6-1. Six goals to one. That is, my Caps scored six times in one game (something they had yet to do in regulation time this season) while holding the Coyotes to one goal. And this without Olie in the net!
And if you think that's nuts? You ain't seen nothing yet. Because goal number six - Alex Ovechkin's thirty-second goal of his rookie season - was... was...
Look, it's January, and people are already throwing around the phrase "play of the year."
You should be able to click the link and watch it streaming if your QuickTime is up to code; otherwise right-click and save, and do watch it, because it is honestly the most incredible thing I've ever seen since I started watching hockey. I've seen flukey goals; I've seen guys knock in the puck as they were falling down or, yes, even on their back. I've never seen anyone remain in control of the puck as he rolled on his back. It's crazy.
If you watch the clip, keep in mind that the awestruck and fascinated commentators? Are the Phoenix broadcasters. Even they can't deny it. Even Wayne Gretzky, coaching the Coyotes and a man who knows a thing or two about scoring goals, said "That was pretty sweet."
So I gotta say, I'm looking forward to seeing what the Capitals can do against the (league-worst!) Blues on Thursday. Go Caps!
