leaving on a jet plane
Aug. 4th, 2006 04:12 pmThe 8pm Friday Washington-Detroit flight and I are likethis. Tonight it's taking me up for
iuliamentis's wedding shower, followed by a couple of days in Toronto with Iulia, and then omgwtf
vividcon!
I think this is the first time I've ever taken a week of vacation from a job, although when I worked for a university we got an extravagant week of holiday time between Christmas and New Year's. All day I've been noticing things I won't have to deal with for a WHOLE WEEK and it's making me v. v. happy.
I'd be much happier about all of this if a) my period hadn't started last night and b) I weren't lugging a giant suitcase. Still, I am pretty damn happy.
This morning, coming in to work with
strangecobwebs, the Metro was oddly depopulated, perpetually like another train had just come through and swept off all the commuters ahead of us, leaving me and my giant suitcase plenty of room. It was probably just lucky timing, but by the time we got to Metro Center without having garnered a single dirty look, Strange and I were half-convinced there had been some kind of apocalyptic warning to Stay the Hell out of DC Today, and we'd missed the memo. That doesn't seem to have panned out - *knocks wood* - so hopefully it's just a good omen for my trip, and when I get home next Sunday, my luggage won't have gone on to Traverse City without me.
*knocks more wood*
I should be online at least a little in the next nine days, checking email and so on, and I harbor this weird delusion that I will get LOADS of writing done on planes and trains and the passenger seat of Iulia's car. Wish me luck!
