(no subject)

All week, recording today's date, October 4, on various things at work, it's been niggling at me. October 4, there's something significant about October 4. Something important happened on October 4. There was this iconic glow around the date in my head, faded and unidentified but not unlike the one surrounding December 25 or October 19. October 4.

Finally, just before leaving work yesterday, I gave in and checked my best guess of what the important thing was, and I was right: The fourth season of The X-Files premiered on this date, ten years ago.

iuliamentis pimped me into The X-Files during our first or second week of friendship, coinciding with our first or second week of high school. I first heard David Duchovny's name while lacing up my saddle shoes in the locker room after gym class. She convinced me to watch "Anasazi," the S2 finale, when it reran, and I was baffled but hooked; she inundated me with tapes of the first two seasons and by the time the second episode of S3 aired, I was essentially caught up. Halfway through S3 I started writing fanfic (painfully clean and chaste and earnest Mulder/Scully, oh yes) which I thankfully could not quite figure out how to post to the internet. And that spring, as shows do, The X-Files went off the air for the summer with a cliffhanger, and for the first time in my life I spent months counting down to a season premiere.

October 4.

So, obviously, I had to write a tag for Friday's Numb3rs episode. And by "tag" I mean "porn." And, uh, I didn't expect it to be this grim, but apparently Don was having Issues. Who knew?
