dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Mac/Drapes hug)
It's just that it was basically the most awesome hockey game ever played.

Detroit vs. Colorado - March 26, 1997.

Nine fights, eleven goals. Blood and fury in the backstory, glory in the epilogue, and balanced in between, one night of hockey at its hard, fast, violent, beautiful best.

I mean, as long as you're a Red Wings fan. People from Colorado seem not to see it quite the same way.

In related news, have begun reading The Code: The Unwritten Rules of Fighting and Retaliation in the NHL and am loving it to itty bitty bloodstained pieces.

Also, on page xi, Marty McSorley writes that "hockey enforcers are typically the nicest guys on their teams. They are the most approachable and the most fun ... They are like the cop on the beat ..."

So, if I needed it, I now feel entirely justified in writing hockey!Ray just the way I did. *g*

ETA: Oh, man--the footage is grainy, which is sadly the case even from the DVD (it was just a regional broadcast game, the source just isn't great) but this is a positively glorious vid of the game's highlights to "Hey Man Nice Shot," which obviously is a song about hockey. ♥ ♥ ♥
