Some links
Jul. 23rd, 2008 06:15 amIn case anyone else has also managed to mostly miss what's going on with the Laura Hale/wiki wankery, there's an excellent encapsulation from
liviapenn here, in case you would like to, for instance, get your moral outrage on for three minutes and then get back to packing. Don't blame me for what happens if you start clicking links.
And in brighter and shinier news, SF/F publisher Tor has launched a new website, tor.com, where there are many blogs relating to Science, SF, and SF geekery among other things, as well as freely available new short stories and graphical type things. For a limited time, they are also making freely and publicly available the (non-DRMed) ebooks and wallpapers they used as giveaways for early adopters.
The giveaway includes many recent novels in multiple formats--I particularly recommend John Scalzi's Old Man's War (even though the supersoldier orgies don't show up until the sequel) and Jo Walton's Farthing (an excellent, but dark WWII AU, whose sequel was nominated for a Lambda Literary Award) (seriously, just don't read it all in one day like a piece of fic just because it's handily available on your computer, it will do scary things to your head) (not that this has ever happened to me or anything, what).
