iuliamentis and I had our more-or-less annual Movie Day, which usually at least attempts to include three movies in one day. Since our two movies were The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2 hours 46 minutes) and Australia (2 hours 45 minutes), we decided to call it good at that.
For the record: I think I spent more of Australia on the verge of tears than TCCoBB. I know Australia hasn't been well-received, critically speaking, but by the time we got to the end of the movie I was thinking, "Wow, being somebody in Hollywood means that you can get people to make your id-fic into a movie." Not that it was id-fic in the purest sense, none of the crazy cracked-out extremes that we go for, but it was that kind of big, button-punching thing, a movie that swaggers in and never deviates from its intention to make you feel, feel, feel, in big roller-coaster swoops of emotion. And--for me and for Iulia, as we spent much of the movie either clutching each other's hands or flailing at each other--it did that really quite effectively.
ETA: In the interests of fairness I must however admit that I made more incoherent oh-god-hot gurgling noises at Brad Pitt than at Hugh Jackman. But Brad's my favorite, so ymmv.
Mostly, though, I just wanted to post to say that I made it probably less than thirty seconds into the trailer for State of Play (the upcoming American movie based on the BBC miniseries) before I started slashing Russell Crowe (the reporter guy) and Ben Affleck (the politician guy). By halfway through the trailer I had checked with Iulia whether it was okay to be slashing them now, and by the end of the trailer we had pretty much agreed that I will ask for this for Yuletide next year. (Though sadly, I realized when I got home, I was thinking of The State Within when I thought it was based on the BBC miniseries with the political intrigue and suddenly-appearing canon gay.)
