1) So I forgot to mention it when the computer actually arrived, but I have a new computer! Her name is Sophie and she's beautiful. )

It's been kind of weird, because I keep expecting myself to be in a state of "whee, shiny new toy!" and instead I am in more of a state of "whew, back to something like normal." It's more like getting into my own place after living on someone else's (wonderfully comfy and kindly supplied) couch for a while--more a relief than anything, and requiring a lot of wandering around figuring out where things should go and where stuff is. Which I guess is just a marker of the role that my computer plays in my life: definitely not a toy.

2) Speaking of Sophies, tonight is Leverage night! Yay!

1a and/or 2a) I was thinking about whether to do custom start-up and shutdown noises for Sophie (for my previous computer, Indiana, it was the exchange from the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade between Indy and Henry Sr.: I like Indiana on startup and We named the dog Indiana on shutdown) and I am kind of tempted to use, if I can figure out how to obtain them, Nate saying "Let's go get ourselves a Sophie" for startup, and ... Sophie saying something, for shutdown, but I'm not sure what.

3) Unrelated to any of the above, yesterday I was browsing Electric Velocipede, mainly because it has such a cool name, and read the story Daughters of Fortune by Cyril Simsa. It's about two women in Prague in the Thirties, and possibly it is also about vampires, or rusalka, or ... I am not entirely sure, and do not wish to spoil it. I am still trying to figure out whether I liked it, so please comment if you have read it or do read it. It has definitely stuck in my mind.
