I have all these thoughts, and keep forgetting to post them. And as I may well be spending a lot of tomorrow drinking, I might as well toss out what I can remember now.

Fic Peeve )

And I'd been meaning to ask this at [livejournal.com profile] ds_discourse but I'm too lazy to post twice.

Is it ever canonically established which set of grandparents Fraser grew up with? Fic seems to point unanimously to his paternal grandparents, but I'd never really been able to see Bob as the child of librarians. Also, I always thought he was significantly older than Caroline (itself probably a baseless assumption) and the odds were therefore better on her parents still being alive than his - I can see Bob coming from a long line of Mounties, dying in the traces like his father before him (though hopefully not his son and daughter after him - good long lives for Ben and Maggie, please). And if Ben was raised by his Fraser grandparents, where the hell were the Pinsents?

With apologies if this is all established in one of those Vecchio-era episodes that I swear I am going to get around to watching sooner or later.

The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim are now 0-4. Go Sens!

Please understand: they're the defending champions of the Western Conference, and they've got Sergei Fedorov. Everyone in Detroit was wringing their hands over losing him (or, as [livejournal.com profile] thelionforreal, spitting on him for turning his back on the team he won three Stanley Cups with), and, well, apparently he can't save this team, not that it should have needed saving. Maybe he's even jinxed them.

Excuse me while I laugh with unholy glee.

In the ongoing linguistic data gathering mission that is my life, hockey commentators are a constant source of joy, producing such gems as: "Looking for an icing call, the Red Wings are," and "We're talking to Mario Lemieux at intermission, John Keating will," and "Just returned from a back injury, Brett Hull is." I think it's some kind of function of calling the game, the action being both more immediately apparent and vital to relate than who's actually doing it. Or possibly it's just that Kenny wants to be Yoda.

On the other hand, there's Three Doors Down, who sing the line "...since the last time that I've saw your pretty face," which I just can't figure out. They're from Mississippi - anybody know if "I've saw" is a regionalism? The war between my sense of language aesthetics and several semesters of "nobody speaks incorrectly, they just speak a different dialect," is a bit distressing.
