wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!

So, the Caps still kinda suck (in particular, they need to work on the concept of passing preferentially to teammates as opposed to empty ice, refs, and their opponents) but they managed to pull out a win this afternoon in front of me and textualchauvini and C, who is apparently too cool for LJ, strangecobwebs, and allegedly ten thousand other people, but I doubt it was actually that many. I screamed (and, uh, talked intently to the players as though they could hear me) quite a lot, and they did it! They won the game! Olie made some awesome saves, Alex put in the winner, they didn't take more penalty minutes than there are minutes in a game (or even a single period!) and all in all they showed up. I am very proud.

Also, and helpfully in a town without much hockey tradition, they flashed up definitions of the penalties called when they were called. One we saw repeatedly in the third said:

HOLDING
TO USE YOUR HAND
ON AN OPPONENT
OR HIS EQUIPMENT

I knew I'd picked the right people to go to the game with when we all looked at each other and said, "Did they read that before they put it on the Jumbotron?"
