dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Orli Grin by haveyounoticed)
Last night after my midterm (let's, um... let's just not talk about it) [livejournal.com profile] textualchauvini and [livejournal.com profile] strangecobwebs and I came back to my place to order takeout and commiserate and drown our sorrows in season one of the Dead Zone, which Auvi got me for my birthday (we'll work around to season one of House, which Strange got me, sometime before the end of the semester, I have no doubt.) I stopped to check my mail while Auvi and Strange were getting checked in with security (only slightly draconian, really...) and had slips for not one but THREE packages!

I got both of my power cords and a birthday present from [livejournal.com profile] helaaspindakaas which turned out to be season three of the Dead Zone - thanks muchly, B-Dog!

This of course meant that before anything else (well, okay, no, I opened and set up one of my power cords first) I got to show Auvi and Strange "Quiet Confidence," one of the featurettes on the season three Dead Zone DVDs and also, coincidentally, possibly the gayest thing I have ever seen. The first time I watched it, with [livejournal.com profile] lyra_sena, I was just being goofy and Walt Bannerman-fangirl, so I wanted to see whatever they had with Chris Bruno, the actor who plays Walt. And I figured a featurette on how he keeps in shape would include Chris being sweaty and less-clothed and nice eye candy.

I just didn't bargain on the fact that he keeps in shape by doing Greco-Roman wrestling.

So last night I had the wonderful experience of sitting through the whole seven minutes with two new people, watching them staring at the TV, not quite able to believe that we were watching these guys--I believe the technical term is grappling--on the TV screen.

Plus, Chris Bruno is kind of cute when he brags about how his watch doesn't fit anymore because his arms are all huge and muscle-y.

So. Thanks again, [livejournal.com profile] helaaspindakaas! Best birthday present ever!

Except possibly for the one I got from my mother, through the wonder of Amazon Wishlists.

I have to admit it occurred to me this might happen, when I put a book called The Commitment: Love, Sex, Marriage, and My Family on my wishlist. I mean, how was my mother to know who Dan Savage was, or just what kind of marriage he was contemplating? (The kind he and his boyfriend could only legally get in Canada, as it turned out, and I apologize if I've spoiled anyone for the ending.)

I gave her the return gift of not telling her when I called to thank her this morning, so I figure I am topped up on Good Daughter points for a few more weeks. *g*

Well, here it is, my lucky thirteenth Numb3rs fic, and...

you all knew this was going to happen, right?

...it's 1700 words of G-rated babyfic! And probably vaguely het, to boot. Set post-"Assassin."
With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] iuliamentis for betaing.

There is a baby strapped to Charlie's chest like a bundle of dynamite.
