I wished for half an hour so just hang out in the basement, openly doing nothing (as opposed to furtively doing nothing at my desk) and, voila! My wish was granted.
It was really, really cool, actually - where I work, I can sort of see a window, but it was enough to tell it was getting dark, so I went up to the breakroom, which has a huge panoramic view, north facing, across the open quad in front of the library. As I watched, bright grey storm cover turned to steeel grey, and the clouds had rolling ribs that I thought suggested circular motion, and behind that, wispier roiling clouds, flashing with lightning, and when I compared that with the disappearing band of storm-grey in the east, I realized, That's green. That's what they mean when they say the sky is green in a tornado. Then, faintly, I heard an amplified voice, and nearer to, the director's secretary saying sharply, "What? What's that? Tornado warning?" And when I went out, a guiltly gleeful smile on my face, I grabbed my bag and headed straight down to the basement.
All clear now, of course, just raining like hell. It was a nice break, though.
